What is an EKG and do you need one?
An electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) is a simple, painless test that records the electrical activity of your heart. It takes about 10 minutes and requires no special preparation.
At Amity Health, your EKG is performed by our clinical team and reviewed the same day by a board-certified family medicine physician. You'll receive a clear explanation of your results — not just a printout.
Most patients who come in for an EKG need it as part of a surgical or medical clearance. Others need it for a sports physical, employment requirement, or simply to check on their heart health.
Surgical clearance
Required by most anesthesiologists before elective or non-elective surgery.
Pre-op medical clearance
Often bundled with your history & physical for complete surgical clearance.
